The Probability Workshop is an immersive experience which shows students the practical application of maths. It starts with a talk on probability in the context of dice. Students will understand the different combinations and how this leads to the odds of the bet.
Students will be taken through two games Craps ( two dice) and Roulette (wheel and ball). The odds of each game will be discovered by the students through questioning.
Students will be given chips and play each of the games to see how probability plays out in real life. At the end of the session students will discuss the winners and losers.
This experience aims are:
- To give students a real life application of maths.
- To understand probability.
- Understand how a casino makes money from you even when you win.
- To discourage gambling by showing students the odds of winning.
Secondary – aimed at transition year and fifth year students.
